Theft of Catalytic Converters

Dear Residents,

I would like to make you aware that a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle on Coteford Street on 17 September.

Catalytic converter thefts can happen quickly and often target vehicles parked on driveways, in car parks, or on the street. Criminals steal these parts because they contain valuable metals.

Crime Prevention Advice

✅ If possible, park your vehicle in a locked garage.

✅ Where a garage is not available, park in a well-lit area covered by CCTV.

✅ Consider installing a catalytic converter security device, cage, or marking kit.

✅ If your vehicle is frequently targeted (such as hybrid vehicles), consider parking close to walls, fences, or other vehicles to restrict access underneath.

✅ Be vigilant for suspicious activity, particularly individuals seen lying underneath vehicles or using cutting tools.

✅ Report any suspicious behaviour immediately by calling 999 if a crime is in progress, or 101 for non-emergency concerns.

✅ Ensure any existing CCTV or doorbell cameras are working and recording correctly.
